I've decided I really need to update the blog & write more. Carter does something cute, and sometimes not so cute, every day and I want to document it.
Today was a MUCH better day than yesterday. Carter threw a small tantrum today and it was quickly resolved when I sat on the floor and hugged him. Sounds crazy, but I know he's acting out b/c of Eli/Sam not around much. And he actually put himself in the time out chair today...it was unbelieveable to me. He kept throwing food down to the dogs from his high chair, so I told him he was through. He got down and ran to the chair and sat for about 15 seconds. A milestone. Things could be dramatically different tomorrow, but for now, I'm holding onto that little bit of hope. A dear friend gave me some toddler advice, and it worked great today. I sent him to his room when he wasn't minding to cool off and it calmed him down and took him away from the problem. Granted, he knows how to turn the lock on his bedroom door, so I had to find the key, but that's for another day. This sounds like so much, but it really wasn't that bad when compared to yesterday...oh my.
And then there's Eli. Sweet Eli who just sleeps & poops now. I'm thinking he's going through a growthspurt b/c he is eating constantly!
Carson's birthday is tomorrow, so we met the family at Roadhouse for dinner. It was great to see everybody. Sam has a game in Carthage, so hoping they win!

Lots of updates!
So my last post was January 2nd. Who would have known two days later I'd be admitted into L&D at exactly 37 weeks to have our little guy?! Needless to say, I've been a little busy since then. Not exactly sure if all 5 people that read my blog care about my labor story, but writing here is great therapy, so I'm going to anyway.
I had another appointment on Monday, January 4th at 2 p.m. with Dr. Harris to do another biophysical/stress test and exam. I'd had the sonograms every week for a few weeks, so I was pretty used to the whole routine. Sam, thank God, was able to come with me. We get to the offices and begin our waiting game. First, we begin with the stress test. Then we wait. Dr. Harris comes in and does an internal which completely changed my mind about going drug free during labor. I had never felt pain like that. She actually laughed and said, "That's a taste of labor". I told her to sign me up for the epi.
We then move on to a regular sonogram (the black and white kind...not sure what the technical name is?). She tells us she wants to make sure the blood flow is ok so she says she wants to do the big 3D sonogram. She says we need to look at it and figure out our 'game plan'. And we wait. Finally, we have the big sonogram. Dr. Harris looks at it she tells us to she wants to talk with us. We wait some more.
Finally we're back in an examination room. I'll never forget the moment when she comes in and says, "Y'all ready to have this baby?" This panic creeps over me. NOW? She explains that Carter has IUGR, or Intrauterine growth restriction. Basically, he's not growing like he should be. We knew that he was small and in the 30th percentile, but now he was in the 10th. She was guessing he'd weigh about 4 pounds. She said we could either, and yes, I quote, "have him now or wait a week and there might not be a heartbeat". She says she's admitting us to L&D and we need to walk over to admitting (the offices are attached to the hospital by a skywalk). They'd start Cervadil that evening and Pitocin at 6 am.
So, we begin our walk over to admitting. A million thoughts are racing through my head. First, I'm terrified that Carter won't be healthy. Second, I'm thankful I washed my hair that morning. Third, that I had given the house a serious cleaning the day before.
I call all the important people to let them know what's going on, we get checked in and into the room and begin waiting some more. Around 6 pm Dr Harris comes in and puts the Cervadil in. Again, holy hell and I make sure they know I'm all for the epidural.
Amy's now on her way to the house, Mom comes up, Sam heads to the house to get our bags, Sarah and Charlie come to visit and we continue waiting....
Thankfully, the nurses gave me an Ambien to sleep b/c I know I wouldn't have otherwise. 5 am comes pretty quickly and they take the Cervadil out. I'm now dialated to a 2. In-laws show up at 5:20. IV and Pitocin begin at 6. Family shows up around 6.
I had really hoped to not be induced or on Pitocin for my labor, but now I'm just praying for a healthy baby.
The rest of the day was kinda a blur. My water broke on it's own somewhere around 11 I think. I can't remember the exact time I got the epidural, maybe around 1? But, I dialated pretty quickly throughout the day. Around 3 something I told the nurse that I felt a lot of pressure down there. She checked me and said his head was right there. She called Dr. Harris and in minutes the room was converted into a delivery room. It took 4 contractions, 3 pushes with each one and he was born! Dr. Harris had to cut the cord and he was immediately handed over to the pediatrician. Once we heard his little scream we knew he was ok. He actually weighed 5 pounds 5 ounces and was perfect.

Bless his heart...
Sam is pretty with it and knowledgeable about what's going on with the pregnancy. He asks all the right questions, says the right things (most of the time), and keeps up. So I was telling him how I had to go in to the hospital on New Year's Day to get the Non-Stress Test done b/c my dr's office was closed. He said he'd go with and then asked me how much we were going to have to pay for it. I told him I wasn't sure, but my insurance has us pay 25% on lab work, but this wasn't really lab work. He then said, "Well those tests are very expensive, like $800!" I'm confused by this point because I've had about 3 or 4 of them so far and I don't think we've paid for them. So he says, "Yes, you're doing the stress test that they make the heart patients do, right? Where they put you on the treadmill and increase the speed?".
Wow. Just wow. I couldn't stop laughing. Me on a treadmill as they increase the speed.
Bless his heart.

Maam have you been drinking?
So, last night was New Year's Eve. We rang in 2009 by staying home and Sam was asleep by 10:30. I remember lying in bed listening to the fireworks thinking that this year would be a wonderful year. I was hoping to be pregnant in 2009. Well, we are and we are very blessed.
I was hoping 2010 would be a little more lively. I know I'm on bedrest and I didn't think we'd go out or anything, but there is an annual party that some family friends throw. Carson & my parents were going so we decided to head on over. It's always a good time. I figured we'd stay for a little bit, visit with friends and that head home early. Well, Sam's been working so much for my dad lately and apparently put on his party panties when I wasn't looking. He had a little too much scotch . I was thoroughly annoyed come midnight b/c he was refilling his drink instead of kissing me. I decided I'd better take my drunker-than-Cooder-Brown husband home, especially since we had an appointment at 10 a.m. at the hospital for a stress test.
Fast forward to this morning......I wake up and start getting ready. Sam rolls out of bed looking like hell. He gets ready. At 9:45, we're off to ETMC. I don't know if it's just my super sensitive nose, but as soon as we get in the car, I can just smell the scotch seeping out of his pores. It doesn't help that everytime he talks fumes are just coming out.
We get to L&D, I'm in the bed, about to get hooked up and a nurse walks in and says to me, "Oh you smell so good". At this point I'm thinking she's being sarcastic and is about to head out and call Social Servies b/c this nine month pregnant mom has been hitting the bottle. I tell her thanks and get a little anxious. Even more paranoid when they ask Sam to help them get the blood pressure cuff cord attatched to the machine. Is this a test? Are they trying to see who smells like the devil water?
Well, they end up getting a new machine, the authorities weren't called, and all is well with Baby Brandt.

Merry Christmas!
Today was a great day! Sam went to his grandparent's in Longview without me this year. Would have been too much with the driving and stress. I stayed at my parent's until he got back. Everybody showed up around 3. Dad made gumbo again this year. I didn't think I'd want to eat it, but it was pretty good. Then we opened presents. All in all, it was a wonderfully relaxing day.
I can't believe this time next year Carter will almost be a year old! WOW.

Holy Mother of God...
I'm just going to go out on a limb here and assume I've 'dropped'. Here are my reasons:
1) I haven't had heartburn lately.
2) I can eat and don't feel like every bite is going to come up.
3) I am going potty every 30 minutes.
4) My tummy is kinda pointed down now, not so much sticking out. Weird.
5) And last but not least: OMG THE PRESSURE DOWN BELOW IS IMMENSE. I feel like there is a bowling ball between my legs.
So, I'm not sure exactly what this means in terms of how much longer we have. 2 weeks? 4 weeks? Dear Lord please not more than that....

interesting....
This was a fun little quiz to take. Madame Zaritska predicted my birth experience. Kinda creepy because it sounds like it could happen...

The day you deliver, outside will be shiny. Your baby will arrive in the late night. After a labor lasting approximately 16 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and will be 17-1/2 inches long. This child will have dark amber eyes and fluffy auburn hair.

So, what'd you do today?
This question cracks me up when someone asks these days.
Today was pretty eventful though for me! I got up, watched a little Today show, amazon.com order was delivered (see precious socks below), ate some cereal, went and had lunch with Jennie (no, not in the bedrest rules, but I felt like being bad), came home, diapers.com order was delivered, watched a cheesy, but wonderful, movie from abcfamily, talked to Amy, monogrammed some towels for mom, and now I'm watching tv.
I'm watching Sing Off to be exact. Clearly, Sam is not here or we would not be watching this. We agree on about 3 shows: How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory and 18 Kids and Counting (yes, he loves the Duggars). Other than that, it can be a struggle at night. Usually I just give in and dvr my shows and watch them later on. This actually works out better for me b/c I like watching them on Saturdays (that was pre-bedrest). His shows usually consist of football (which I can handle), Dirty Jobs (ugh), Deadliest Catch, Extreme/Swamp Loggers and all the food shows where they're stuffing their faces or eating gross foods. Anyway, I kinda like this show. I'm so impressed with anybody that can sing.
Mom is coming to pick me up in about 20 minutes to go and get my shower gifts from our school secretary. Today was supposed to be my shower at school, but they just collected the gifts. I'm impatient and don't want to wait to get them tomorrow night.
Sam's at a district meeting and I'm not sure when he's getting home, but I hope it's not too late. It's been so nice having him home before 6, even if we don't agree on tv. :)
Here are the precious socks I ordered last week. Carter has a ton of football items, so I thought I'd throw another sport in:

out of site, out of mind.
That's kinda how I feel right now.
I guess I'm just hurt by the people that I assumed would call me, visit me or at least offer to help out. The ones that have actually called me, offered to bring dinner, help me with errands or clean aren't the ones that I thought would offer.
Which I guess leads me to believe you can't always count on people.
And no, I'm not throwing a pity party b/c I'm actually doing great. I feel better than I have in awhile.

today sucked.
Today just was miserable. I think the majority of it is b/c I am used to getting so much done on Saturday. It's my day to get the cleaning, errands and other random stuff done. I'm now at the mercy of my husband for these tasks. Bless his heart he is helping as much as he can. Here's a prime example of how different women and men are:
Sam: What would you like me to do?
Me: Well, would you mind cleaning the bathroom a little bit? You know, just wipe down the counter and scrub the toilet. It'll just take a minute.
Sam: But, it's clean! I was just in there!
Me: blank look at him
Sam: Babe, if it's not broke, then why fix it??
Me: Absolutely Sam. Well, would you mind just vacuuming then?
Sam: Sure (He goes to get the vacuum and plugs it in)
Sam: Babe, how do you get this to work??
I'm also just grouchy today. We're also missing two Christmas parties that I was really looking forward to going to. I know this will all be worth it in the end, but good Lord......

Busy days...
Just in case anybody's interested, here's a run down of my last two days on bedrest:
Day 1:
Got up about 8, made some coffee-decaf, of course-watched a little Today show, caught up on Biggest Loser, Cake Boss and Chelsea Lately. Took a shower, did my makeup, checked the mail and played online a whole lot. I tried to read, but it just didn't happen. Then Mom came over and brought chicken spaghetti and Sam came home. We then watched Year One-sucked ass and was weird-don't watch it. Then I went to bed.
Day 2:
Got up about 8, took a shower, took my car to Classic to get Bluetooth put in (that's another post), went to the bank, went home, caught up on Glee, Modern Family and more Chelsea Lately, went back to get my car, checked the mail, had to call a couple parents about their children misbehaving for my sub, and now I'm waiting to hear from Sam or my mom or somebody.
I'm really just trying to enjoy this time. It's not everyday you are told to sit there and do nothing. I've been able to get little things done that I couldn't always do at work. I set up a time to meet with our pediatrician, bought some precious little socks with tees and golf balls on them for Carter online:
They're Trumpettes and they come in 6 colors. I think they're too precious. He has so much football stuff, so he needed some golf attire.

fears came true...
So I'm on bedrest now. I prayed this wouldn't happen for many reasons. Financial being at the top of my list, but there's no choice. I went to the doctor this afternoon and after the fetal monitoring, sonogram and internal, I'm at home. Everything looked fine, but he's measuring small. Only the 26th percentile, so she says I need to be at home, stress-free and off my feet. And since I've had a couple other problems, she wants to make sure he stays in there a little longer.
I have my sub plans all ready to go. My long-term sub is thankfully finishing up her student teaching and is able to be in my room the next two weeks. I feel better about leaving my kids with someone who will teach, rather than just baby-sit.
I'm not sure what to do tomorrow with all my time. She told me I could be up if I'm changing rooms, going to the bathroom, showering, eating. So, I'm thinking a little Today show, read a little, facebook, catch up on my DVR'd shows (Chelsea Lately, Biggest Loser, Cake Boss), maybe a movie? I've thought about sewing a little b/c that doesn't require me to be on my feet, just sitting there. We'll see.
On another note, we got a new car. We went to the dealership Saturday morning bright and early. We were greeted in the parking lot by a woman carsalesperson. I kinda brushed her off and told Sam I don't know about this. How horrible of me I know! I've never met a woman selling a car! We ended up narrowing it down between a Camry Sport and a Highlander. We went with the Camry. I just love it. It's sporty, but will fit kids, it's safe and gets awesome gas mileage. And, we ended up loving our car sales woman. She was personable, not pushy at all and we plan to buy our next car from her!

what a pain.
I hate messing with cars. I hate having to think about gas, flat tires, engines, really everything. But, when my car is acting funny, I know it.....
It all started back in July. I had to go to Austin for a conference and my car made these jerking movements. It was like it hiccuped while I was driving. I explained this to Sam and he said take it in. So, I take it in to our mechanic, whom we really trust. He told me nothing was wrong! It was great and he couldn't find anything. Now I'm thinking I'm just crazy. Oh, and side note: I've been complaining how it doesn't heat up when it's cold out...it'll take 20 minutes for my heater to start working.
Ok, so Monday I'm driving and almost home and it just dies. Luckily, Sam wasn't far so he followed me home. He drove it the next day and it died on him and did the hiccup thing. He gets online and finds that there's some sensor recall with Nissan Altimas. Great we're thinking! This won't cost a thing! (if this were a novel that would have been foreshadowing)
Boy were we wrong!!!!!
We took it to Peltier Nissan and they can't fix the recall programming problem without fixing the sensor something or another-I don't remember the technical term. And, just to fix the necessary things, meaning just so it won't blow up on us in the next month, it'll be about 1000 dollars. Plus, I need new back tires. Then there are all the other repairs that are needed, which will be another 1000-2000.
Oh, and I wasn't crazy! My car won't heat up b/c it can't! The 'microfilter' is messed up. Whatever that means! So, I get online and find that I'm not the only Altima owner with the same problems! Other people have the same ones and keep having it over and over.
So, here we are: do we fix my car or just throw in the towel and get a new one? Mine is paid off and another car payment sucks. But, throwing money into mine when it's going to need way more repairs sucks too.
We've spent the night car shopping and we're going to get a new, safer one. What a romantic, exciting Friday night!

But, throwing money into mine when it's going to need way more repairs sucks too.

a couple of updates...
It really seems like this semester has flown by! I can't believe we're already in the 3rd six weeks...(I think in terms of six weeks/semesters, not like the rest of the real world that thinks in months). It's been a great year so far and I just love most things at school right now. I know not everything can be perfect, but I'm just thankful my kids are so wonderful this year. Last year's kids were great too, but just had so much personality that they could be overwhelming. That group was just all around pretty rough on our campus too. This year's kids are fantastic and they make each day great. I'm not worried at all about leaving them with the long-term sub and I'm not worried at all about TAKS...which is what we seem to focus on anyway in the great state of Texas.
Jennie's wedding was this weekend and it was gorgeous! I was honored to be a reader during the ceremony. In front of about 450 people, yes I said 450, it was a rather large wedding, I did get quite nervous. Having to go up there and feel like a whale didn't help the nerves either. But, the ceremony was beautiful and the reception was just fabulous. Great food, music, dancing, decorations and fabulous open bar....no, I didn't partake. Here are a couple pics:

On another note, we got maternity pictures done today. I kept going back and forth on whether or not to get them, but finally just decided to do it. Sam didn't really want to get them, but then again, he never wants to take pictures. It was a blast taking them. Cara really made it so much fun and we took a lot of cute/goofy ones. I didn't want a bunch of pics with my bare tummy showing or serious ones, and she did exactly what we wanted. We should have them in about a week!

2:42 a.m.
10 years ago at 2:42 a.m. 12 Aggies lost their lives in the Bonfire Tragedy.
I wasn't enrolled at A&M at that time, I wasn't truly an Aggie yet, but I remember the moment I heard the news. It was my senior year. I hadn't decided on a college yet; mom and I were still visiting schools. I was to go visit A&M the week after Thanksgiving. I remember hearing the news while I was getting ready for the day. I had a good friend at A&M and I immediately called him to make sure he was ok.
I went to visit the campus with mom two weeks following. I remember seeing the stack. Yellow tape surrounded the area. People on campus were somber, but the 'howdy' welcome still came from their mouths. I remember leaving knowing that was where I wanted to spend the next four years.
I don't think the impact of Bonfire truly hit me until I was a freshman. I didn't realize how important, how deep the tradition was in the Aggie culture. I still don't know if I can fully realize the impact because I never participated in a true Bonfire. However, they were Aggies and Aggies are we.
So on this day I'm remembering the 12 Fallen Aggies and their families.....

Some may boast of prowess bold
Of the school they think so grand
But there's a spirit can ne'er be told
It's the Spirit of Aggieland.

It's about time...
for a quiz. I haven't done one in awhile.
How far along? 30 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: Holding strong at 32 freaking pounds
Maternity clothes? yep.
Sleep: I'm so exhausted. I sleep so much at night, but I don't really get good sleep.
Best moment this week: shopping for Carter with Sam
Movement: TONS. He loves rolling, kicking around
Food cravings: eh, nothing really. Oh wait, I did want Fruity Pebbles last night, but I didn't crave them, just thought, hey, those sound good. The craving for oranges is back though.
Gender: BOY!
Labor Signs: None.
Belly Button in or out? In.
What I miss: getting up off the floor quickly
What I am looking forward to: my appointment tomorrow and our maternity pictures next week!
Weekly Wisdom: You don't have to buy everything brand new...
Milestones: 10 weeks to go. Holy shit.

I got nothing for a title...
The past two weekends have been pretty wonderful. Last Saturday was my shower and it was great (pics coming soon). The hostesses made everything so nice from the food, drinks, games...wonderful. I was so happy so many ladies could make it. Carter got a ton of precious little outfits, books, blankets and decor for the room. His nursery is coming along and I'm going to post pics when everything is hung up.
Today was a pretty good day, too. It was nice to have Sam at home (even though he's already bored). I ran some errands this morning, cleaned a little, took Brock for a walk, watched football with Sam and napped on the couch. Tonight we went to eat at WingStop then did a little shopping. Overall, it was laid back and what I needed.
On another note, Sam just said, "you get annoyed with a lot lately. Just sayin".
